A safe place...Welcome to The Gathering Place of Pickering Pentecostal  Church (PPC).

Our objective is to be “a safe place for people on their way back to God.”

ABOUT THE GATHERING PLACE

The Gathering Place is a special place for us.  Jesus said, "where two or three are gathered together because they are mine, I am there among them."(Matthew18:20 .)  We have called the place where the church meets The Gathering Place to make it clear to us, and to all who know us, that the church is not a building. It is people!  The church, PPC, meets at The Gathering Place!

The family is diverse!

As you, no doubt, have observed we are a multi-cultural congregation that celebrates our diversity.  We are tremendously enriched by the variety of life-experiences we bring to our gatherings. We like to think that PPC is a microcosm of what it will be like in heaven, for the Scripture tells us in Revelation 5:9 the people of God will be "from every tribe and language and people and nation."  We represent 60 countries of origin.  According to our most recent statistics the region of origin (birthplace) for our people is as follows:

Congregation Members Birthplaces

  • 67.0 % - Canada
  • 13.0 % - Caribbean & Central America
  • 6.0 % South America
  • 5.0 % - Europe
  • 5.0 % - Africa
  • 3.0 % - Asia
  • 1.0 % - USA

In terms of age, our church family looks like this:
Ages of PPC Congregation

  • 2 % - Ages 75+ Seniors
  • 8 % - Ages 59-74
  • 25 % - Ages 39-58
  • 21 % - Ages 23-38
  • 19 % - Ages 12-22
  • 25 % - Ages Under 12

As you can see we are a young congregation with 65% of the congregation under 38, and we thank God for the vitality and life that youthfulness brings to us as a body of believers.

Small Groups at PPCPPC is a SmallGroup church

We believe that the best environment in which to introduce people to the gospel, bring them into saving faith, and have them grow in their discipleship is a SMALL GROUP.  The celebration events on Sunday are important.  We need the encouragement and inspiration that comes from a vibrant worship experience with a large group of believers, the vision-casting and teaching that comes from prophetic preaching, and the fellowship we enjoy with the larger community of believers.  However, for our personal development and spiritual growth as disciples of Jesus Christ we need the relationships that are formed in the smaller community of a small group – GROWING PLACES is what we call them at PPC.  Places where we can grow individually in our discipleship, and  grow the Body of Christ.

When Jesus began His ministry, Mark tells us that, "Jesus called the ones he wanted to go with him.  And they came to him.  He selected twelve of them to be his regular companions."  (Mark 3:13)  The Scripture does not say that he required them to go to Seminary, or even "get saved" before they could be His disciples!  Being with the Christ changed their lives.  We believe the Holy Spirit indwells ordinary believers and that if we encourage ordinary believers, properly equipped and trained by the Ministry Leadership Team, to find ways of gathering some people around them the Holy Spirit, living in them, will provide the transforming power which will result in changed lives.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of PPC is to be a community of faith where people can safely pursue a growing relationship with God and with each other through Jesus Christ, and where people are equipped and released to go, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to love a world in need.

VISION STATEMENT

The vision of PPC is to become a nurturing community of faith dedicated to creating relationships that facilitate the equipping of God’s people to do the work of ministry with the objective of developing every believer into a disciple-making follower of Jesus Christ with the result that the church becomes a self-propagating, vibrant, organism “joined and held together by every supporting ligament, (it ) grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work”. Eph. 4:14

CORE VALUES

We value:

a grace-filled environment

where people come ahead of programs, rules and even doctrine; where, in every way and to every people grouping (age, gender, culture, nationality, skin colour) we purpose to be "a safe place for people on their way back to God."

the ministry of all believers

This means that we believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer for the purpose of empowering him/her to go and make disciples of all nations.  We believe this ministry will be done best in the context of a Small Group.  The Ministry Leadership Team will have as its chief focus the development of Spirit indwelt, filled, and led individual believers who will do the work of the ministry through leading and birthing small groups.
